Cataloging Basics & MARC21 Records
MyOPAC features a robust cataloging module compliant with the MARC21 metadata standard. Librarians can manage records using three primary methods:
- Original Cataloging: Create biblio records from scratch using configurable frameworks (default or custom templates) under the /librarian/books/new page.
- Z39.50 Copy Cataloging: Query international libraries (such as the Library of Congress or MyOPAC Central Catalog) via Z39.50 at /librarian/z3950 to import high-quality records directly by ISBN, Title, or Author.
- Batch MARC Import: Import large catalogs of MARC21 (.mrc or .xml) records at /librarian/import.
Mobile Cataloging & Scanning Features
MyOPAC is fully optimized for mobile devices, enabling librarians to manage holdings directly from a smartphone or tablet:
- Mobile Barcode Scanning: Use your device's built-in camera to scan book barcodes (ISBNs or accession numbers) to quickly add, edit, or check items in and out. This eliminates the need for expensive dedicated USB scanners.
- Patron Card Scanning: Scan patron card barcodes or QR codes from a mobile screen or physical card to retrieve their account profile instantly, make checkouts, or verify borrowing status.
Dashboard & Tracking
Librarians can monitor cataloging progress and financial stats directly from the main administrative dashboard:
- Cataloging Counters: View live metrics of total biblio records, holdings, and newly added books.
- Fee & Fine Tracking: Monitor collected and outstanding fines, patron balances, and transaction logs in real time.
